Background & early life Mamdani was born October 18, 1991 in Kampala, Uganda. His father is Mahmood Mamdani, a scholar of Indian-Ugandan heritage. His mother is Mira Nair, an Indian-American filmmaker. His family moved to the United States when he was young. He attended the The Bronx High School of Science and later graduated from Bowdoin College with a BA in Africana Studies.
