দাস প্রথা 

সারা দুবাই ঘুরাঘুরি শেষ গফুর মিয়ার। বেড়ানোর এক পর্যায়ে গফুর মিঞা আর স্ত্রী ফাতিমা বিবি একটি শপিং মলের বাইরে বিশ্রাম নিচ্ছিলেন। 

এমন সময়ে এক ধনী আরব শেখ তাঁদের দিকে এগিয়ে এসে সালাম করে জানতে চাইলেন ওনারা কোথা থেকে এসেছেন। গফুর জানালেন করাচি, পাকিস্তান থেকে এসেছেন।

এবার শেখ সাহেব সরাসরি জানালেন, উনি একশোটি উটের বিনিময়ে ফাতিমা বিবিকে কিনে নিতে চান।কোন রকম সংকোচ করলেন না। 

হতভম্ব গফুর শেখ সাহেবের দিকে নিঃশব্দে চেয়ে রইলেন। বাক্য নিঃসরণ হচ্ছিলো না তাঁর! এরপর তিনি কপালে হাত দিয়ে মাথা নিচু করে বসে রইলেন আরও প্রায় মিনিট পাঁচেক। অবশেষে ধীর কন্ঠে তিনি কোনো রকমে শুধু এইটুকুই বলতে পারলেন, "আমার বিবিজান বিক্রির জন্য নন!"

শেখ সাহেব হতাশ হয়ে চলে যাওয়ার পর ফাতিমা আর থাকতে না পেরে গফুরের গালে একটা চুম্মি দিয়ে বললেন, "আমি অভিভূত! কত রোমান্টিক তুমি! কত ভালোবাসো আমাকে গো! শুধু একটা ব্যাপার বুঝলাম না, তুমি জবাব দিতে এত লম্বা সময় নিলে কেন? ওনাকে অনেক আগেই তো ভাগিয়ে দেওয়া উচিৎ ছিলো!"

গফুর মিঞা বললেন, "আমি নানাভাবে চিন্তা করার চেষ্টা করছিলাম, কিন্তু কিছুতেই সমাধান খুঁজে পেলাম না! কিছুতেই ভাবতে পারলাম না আমি একশোটা উট কি করে করাচিতে নিয়ে যাবো!"

ফাতিমা বেহুঁশ!!!

After finishing his tour around Dubai, Gafur Miah was resting with his wife, Fatima Bibi, outside a shopping mall.

At that moment, a wealthy Arab Sheikh approached them, greeted them with salaam, and asked where they were from. Gafur replied that they had come from Karachi, Pakistan.

The Sheikh then, without hesitation, declared that he wanted to buy Fatima Bibi in exchange for one hundred camels.

Stunned, Gafur stared silently at the Sheikh — he couldn’t utter a single word. Then, placing his hand on his forehead, he sat quietly for nearly five minutes. Finally, in a trembling voice, he managed to say only this much:“My wife is not for sale.”

After the disappointed Sheikh walked away, Fatima, overwhelmed with emotion, kissed Gafur on the cheek and said,“I’m amazed! How romantic you are! How much you love me! But I just don’t understand one thing — why did it take you so long to answer him? You should’ve sent him away much earlier!”

Gafur replied,“I was trying to think in every possible way, but I just couldn’t find a solution! I couldn’t figure out how on earth I would take a hundred camels back to Karachi!”

Fatima fainted!!!
